Our glass bottle refund/return/deposit program has been working very well. We have a lot of loyal customers returning their bottles as diligently as possible, and it’s so cool to see people so stoked on us reusing them and being a part of the upcycling.
On the other hand we have metal lids that are seemingly unrecyclable. They also don’t seem to be ideal for reusing, as they have a tucked under lip that we’ve noticed rusting if left in the water at all, making us feel like that lip could be harnessing other things as well.
We would opt for plastic lids if they we recyclable, and/or reusable… but even those have an inner paper ring that I can’t imagine could possible keep all the moisture from getting under the paper it.
